Digestive fire is not simply a material fire, but a pranic or electrical force, so that all digested, broken, and transformed matter can be carried throughout the body. Agni is the prime factor in establishing health, because if the digestive fire is weak, digestion capacity becomes slow and inefficient, accumulating and generating toxins or Ama, which is undigested matter. Consequently such a condition unbalances the whole process of nutrition of tissues and body. The accumulated toxins in the tissues open doors so that diseases, imbalances and malfunctions can develop in our system.
Agni is in its normal state when there is a healthy and normal desire for food, when there is no discomfort after meals and absence of symptoms such as belching, gas, feeling of heaviness, embarrassment, heartburn or nausea. In other words, a healthy and effective Agni results in the presence of a sense of well-being and satisfaction, which indicates proper nutrition of the tissues (Rasas). In this context, the evacuation and the excreted material presents a consistent and transformed state, containing no undigested food remains and carried out naturally by the organism.
"All diseases are related to the weakening of Agni (digestive fire),
Or by their intense and excessive activity. ''
Another factor to consider is that Agni is an ever-changing force. The factors that reflect this change in agni's performance can be found in the climate, in the constitution proper to each individual, and in the combination of foods. Everything that we feed reflects in the natural flow of our system, generating changes in the physical, mental and spiritual state of each one.
The factors that lead to the weakening of Agni:
How to improve Agni:
Herbs to enhance Agni: Aloe Vera, black pepper, cardamom, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, fennel seeds and ginger root Ginger tea.
Drink ginger tea all day, and with meals. Ginger is known in Ayurveda as the "universal remedy" because of its many benefits to the body, and has been used for over 2,000 years to treat digestive problems. Ginger has the ability to relax the smooth muscle of the gut, thus relieving symptoms of gas and colic, benefiting the respiratory and circulatory systems.
If Agni is functioning properly, the processes of assimilation, nutrition and absorption take place effortlessly. An individual with a healthy and active Agni will result in a healthy and vibrant body.
Our longevity depends on the state of our Agni.
